Explanation of the Illustration Symbols Used

I use a simple set of symbols to indicate significant events that have occurred in the pictures of wargames inserted in blog posts. These are illustrated in the header picture above. Green and red (and sometimes blue) are used to indicate the opposing forces.

Six pointed orange star – indicates the point were casualties have occurred from ranged weapon fire.

Five pointed yellow star – indicates the point where a melee’ was or is occurring.

Four pointed star – indicates the point where a unit was destroyed. It is in that unit’s force (faction, side) color.

Arrows  – (in the respective force colors) are often drawn to show movement.

Border lines – (in the respective force colors) are often drawn to show the front lines of the opposing forces.

Note: the squares are simply color swatches that I use to keep the shading uniform.
